Data mart structure

Opening a data mart from the list takes you to the data mart constructor: the element selection panel on the left and an interactive canvas on the right. The canvas is where the composition of the data mart is reviewed and adjusted, and where the data mart is saved, verified and published to the database.

What the canvas shows

Node	Content
Data mart node	The central node. Lists everything included in the data mart — measures, facts and dimensions — with element types visually distinguished. Its header shows the data mart name and description and gives access to the Edit data mart dialog
Fact table nodes	The activated fact tables. Each is shown in a compressed form, with sections for dimension groups, dimensions that are not in a dimension group, facts and measures, and shows the fact table name and description
Dimension group nodes	The dimension groups used by the data mart. The node lists the individual dimensions of the group. A dimension group node can also be placed on the canvas on its own, without any of its dimensions being added to the data mart
Common measures node	Measures that are calculated over the data of several fact tables. Details of each measure can be opened from the node
Connection lines	Link the elements of the data mart to their source. Lines from fact tables and dimension groups show where an element comes from; for measures with configured aggregation levels, animated lines run to the dimensions and facts of that aggregation level. Individual lines can be highlighted

Only activated fact tables are shown on the canvas. A fact table is activated either by its switch in the selection panel, or automatically by selecting one of its elements — see the Selecting data mart elements page.

Measures in the fact table nodes, the common measures node and the data mart node carry the health icon that shows their overall health status; hovering over it shows the health summary (see the Measure health cards page). A measure with the Error health status cannot be added to the data mart from the canvas: its add button is unavailable, with the tooltip "A measure with Error health status can't be added". Such a measure that is already in the data mart can still be removed.

Actions on an element

Every element on the canvas has an actions menu:

Action	Description
View details	Opens the properties of the element as they are defined in the RMD
Define aggregation level	Opens the aggregation level dialog. Available for aggregated measures only
Configure filter	Opens the filter dialog for the element. Not available for aggregated measures: "Filtering is not allowed for aggregated measures"
Remove from data mart	Removes the element from the data mart composition

A dimension group row inside a fact table node offers two more actions: Edit, which opens the dimension group editing dialog, and Expand, which shows the dimension group node on the canvas without adding its dimensions to the data mart.

A dimension group node stays on the canvas after the last of its dimensions has been removed from the data mart. It is removed only with the delete button in the top-right corner of the node itself.

Order of measures

Measures are listed in the data mart node in the order in which they were added, and common measures keep their place in that sequence instead of being moved to the end. The order is preserved when the data mart is saved and reopened.

Interactive features

Zooming — increase or decrease the zoom level of the canvas
Panning — move the whole viewport
Moving nodes — nodes are dragged freely and connection lines are redrawn automatically. Positions are stored when the data mart is saved
Search — the canvas and the selection panel support search by element name; matches are highlighted
Details — the View details action on any element shows its properties from the RMD

Saving changes

Changes are not saved automatically. Use the Save changes button in the top-right corner of the canvas
One save writes the complete new state of the data mart: composition, aggregation levels, filters, hidden elements, node positions and connection lines
Creating or deleting a filter and switching an element between shown and hidden are reflected on the canvas immediately, but are stored in the database only by an explicit save
If you leave the page with unsaved changes, the system asks: "Data mart contains unsaved changes. Do you want to save them before leaving?"
Collaborative editing: the last save overwrites earlier ones. Before overwriting, the system asks: "Do you want to overwrite changes of other users working on this data mart?"
If the data mart has meanwhile been deleted by another user, the message "The data mart was deleted and configuration changes were not saved" is shown

Saving a change that affects the generated query — the name, the composition, aggregation levels, filters or the set of hidden elements — marks the view created for the data mart in the database as outdated. A save that touches only filters does not mark the view outdated.

Updating the configuration when the RMD changes

The canvas does not update in real time when the RMD or the underlying fact tables change. The current state is picked up when:

The data mart is reopened
The browser page is refreshed
The configuration is saved

Notes:

Access is resolved from the project role. An Analyst who owns the project does not gain developer rights for these operations
The same canvas is reused on the fact table data model screen, where all the operations above are restricted to the Super administrator, Administrator and Developer roles
The canvas and the selection panel are read-only when the company license is missing or invalid
