Columns and table view
The appearance of the RMD tables — the set of visible columns, their order of sorting, filtering, sizes, and frozen columns — is set up on the Measures, Dimensions, and Facts tabs of the RMD screen and is described here.
Column header menu
Every column header has a menu button. It contains the operations that apply to that column:
| Item | Description |
|---|---|
| Search | Opens a popover for filtering by this column. For text and formula columns it is a text field, for dropdown and checkbox columns a list of the column's values. The popover has Reset and Search buttons |
| Sort ascending / Sort descending | Sorts the whole table by this column |
| Clear sort | Removes the sorting. Available while the table is sorted by this column |
| Configure column | Opens the column settings (see below) |
| Freeze to this column | Freezes the columns from the first one up to this one |
| Unfreeze columns | Removes the freeze in this table |
| Hide column | Hides the column |
The header itself shows the description of the column on hover. A column with active filtering or sorting is highlighted and marked with a dot.
Visible columns
The Select columns button on the table control panel opens the list of the table's columns with a checkbox for each one. The list has Select all and Deselect all, and the choice is applied with Apply.
Notes:
- Required columns cannot be hidden — their checkboxes are inactive, and Hide column is not offered for them in the header menu
- The set of visible columns is saved for you personally and is restored the next time you open the table
- Columns cannot be reordered; the order of the columns in a table is fixed
Column settings
Configure column opens the Configure RMD column dialog. The same settings are available from the table control panel menu through Configure RMD columns, which lists the columns of all three tables on separate tabs with an edit action for each row.
Shown for reference and not editable: Column name, Column description, RMD table, and Required column.
Editable:
| Setting | Description |
|---|---|
| Column type | Text, Formula, Select, Checkbox, or Select from DB. For the Connected source columns only Text and Select from DB are offered. For system columns the type cannot be changed |
| Available options | The list of options of a Select column. Options can be added, renamed by clicking them, and deleted |
Rules for options: the name is required, from 1 to 128 characters, and must be unique within the column; a column can have at most 255 options. The system options of the product (for example Base, Calculated, Primary, Derived, Constant, Active, Archived, In progress) cannot be renamed or deleted.
Before the changes are applied the system asks for a confirmation, because the column is used by every element of the project. When a text column is converted into a dropdown column, the system additionally offers to match the existing values with the options of the new list; values that are left unmatched are cleared.
Configuring columns requires the Developer role or above and a valid license. The same rule applies to both entry points: for the Analyst and Viewer roles the Configure column item of the column header menu is not shown, and Configure RMD columns lists the columns without the edit action, so the settings can be viewed but not changed.
Freezing columns
Freezing keeps the leftmost columns in place while the rest of the table is scrolled horizontally. Freeze to this column in the header menu freezes every column from the first one up to and including the one you opened the menu on, and Unfreeze columns removes the freeze.
Notes:
- Frozen and non-frozen columns scroll vertically together; only the non-frozen part scrolls horizontally
- Frozen columns can still be resized, sorted, and filtered; sorting and searching by a frozen column apply to the whole table, as for any other column
- Selection by mouse and by keyboard works across the freeze boundary
- If a frozen column is hidden, the boundary shifts to the previous visible column
- The freeze is set separately for each of the three tables and is kept for the current session only: it is not saved and is reset when the page is reloaded
- Freezing relies on browser support for scroll-driven animations. In browsers without that support the freeze items are not shown
Sizes of rows and columns
- Column width and row height are changed by dragging the border in the column header and in the row-number cell
- Auto fit column width on the table control panel sets the width of the selected columns to the longest of their values. When the whole table is selected, the longest value of each column is determined for the entire table and not only for the loaded rows
- Auto fit row height sets the height of the selected rows to the height of their content. The Connected source columns are not taken into account
- Both actions require a selection
Sorting, filtering, and search
| Tool | Where it is | What it applies to |
|---|---|---|
| Text search | The search field on the table control panel | The whole active table. Matches are highlighted in the cells |
| Column search | Search in the column header menu | Rows are filtered by the value of that column |
| Column filter | Search in the header menu of a dropdown or checkbox column | Rows are filtered by the selected values |
| Sorting | Sort ascending / Sort descending in the header menu | The whole table, by one column at a time |
| Clear filtering | The table control panel | Removes all column filters and the sorting at once |
Rows are loaded in portions of 50 as you scroll. Sorting, filtering, and search are applied to all rows of the table on the server, not only to the loaded ones.
Resetting the table view
Reset table view on the table control panel returns the tables to their initial appearance: it clears the frozen columns, the row heights and column widths, and the hidden columns for all three RMD tables at once. Filters, sorting, and search are cleared separately with Clear filtering.
Full screen
The full-screen button on the table control panel expands the table to the whole window and hides the navigation. The same button, now labelled Exit full screen mode, returns the usual view.
