RMD change history
General information
The RMD change history shows a persistent, server-side log of who changed which RMD cell values, when, and how. It is available on the Measures, Dimensions, and Facts tabs of the RMD screen and in the Details from RMD dialog, and every value change is recorded there regardless of how it was made.
What is recorded
The system keeps a log of changes to cell values in the Measures, Dimensions, and Facts tables. A change is recorded no matter its source:
- In-place cell editing
- Bulk editing by copy/paste or drag
- Editing through a measure, dimension, or fact modal dialog
- Changing a formula in the formula builder
- Data import ("Load from file")
- Updates made through the public API
Each entry captures the timestamp, the user, the affected element, the affected column, the value before the change, the value after the change, the action type, and the project version. Bulk operations record every affected cell separately, sharing one timestamp and a common action type.
Notes:
- System-generated and read-only fields (for example, Source data type and the row number) are not tracked
- History is retained for 366 days and is then automatically purged
- The history of deleted elements and users is retained and not hidden
Opening the change history
The history is shown in a single RMD change history dialog, which can be opened in one of three scopes. Opening the dialog in a given scope pre-fills its filters with that context.
| Scope | How to open | What is shown |
|---|---|---|
| Cell | Right-click a single selected editable cell and choose View change history; also available as the View change history toolbar button when a single cell is selected | Changes to that one cell (element + column) |
| Element | Select cells from a single row, then click View change history on the table control panel. Also available as the View change history button in the Details from RMD dialog of a measure, dimension, or fact | Changes to that one element across all columns |
| Table | Open the RMD table actions menu (the ellipsis button) and choose View change history | Recent changes across the entire RMD table |
The entry points of the RMD screen appear only on the Measures, Dimensions, and Facts tabs, and only for rows that have history. The Details from RMD dialog opens the same dialog with the same permissions, wherever the Details from RMD dialog itself was opened from.
The RMD change history dialog
The dialog is a paginated table with the following columns:
| Column | Description |
|---|---|
| Table / Column | The RMD table and column the change applies to |
| Element | The affected measure, dimension, or fact |
| User | The user who made the change |
| Action type | How the change was made (see below) |
| Action date | When the change was made |
| Value before | The value before the change |
| Value after | The value after the change |
| Actions | Restoring the change |
Action types:
| Action type | Description |
|---|---|
| Manual edit | A manual change of a cell value |
| Import from file | A change made during a file import |
| Update via API | A change made through the public API |
| Change restored | A rollback to a historical value |
Working with the list:
- Sorting — by date, user, RMD table, element, column, or value before/after. By default the list is sorted by date, newest first
- Filtering and search — by date range, user, RMD table, element, column, and value before/after
- Pagination — large history sets are split across pages
- Deleted elements and users are highlighted with a red font and a tooltip; their history remains visible
Viewing the change history is available to all roles, including Viewer.
Restoring a change (rollback)
From the Actions column you can restore a single cell to a selected historical value.
- The system asks for confirmation before restoring
- On confirmation, the value is restored through the normal editing path, so all cascade effects apply — dependent formulas, fact tables, dimension groups, verification filters, and data marts are updated automatically, and the change is broadcast to other users
- The rollback is itself recorded as a new history entry with the action type Change restored
- A result notification tells you whether the operation succeeded
Who can restore a change: Restoring is available to the Developer role and above (Developer, Project manager with developer access, Administrator, Super administrator). The Analyst and Viewer roles can view history but cannot restore changes.
Limitations:
- Restoring works on one cell only. Bulk rollback (multiple cells, multiple elements, an entire column, or multiple tables) is not available
- Rolling back to a previous project version is not available through RMD change history — use project version rollback for that
- Restoring is not available for deleted elements
Error messages:
- If the element no longer exists: "Restored change belongs to an element that no longer exists"
- Without edit permissions: "You do not have permissions for this operation"
