Cell comments

Comments let you keep a discussion next to the data it is about: they are attached to a single cell of the Measures, Dimensions, or Facts table and are visible to everyone working with the same project version.

Starting a discussion

  1. Select one cell on the Measures, Dimensions, or Facts tab
  2. Right-click it and choose Add comment
  3. Type the text of the comment in the field that opens
  4. Click Add

A discussion appears on the cell as soon as its first comment is added. One cell can hold several discussions.

Notes:

  • Add comment is available only when exactly one cell is selected — it is not offered for a multi-cell or a whole-column selection
  • A comment can be up to 255 characters long. The Add button stays inactive while the field is empty or the limit is exceeded
  • Creating a discussion requires the Developer role or above and a valid license

Marker on a cell

A cell that has discussions is marked in its top-right corner:

Marker Meaning
Orange At least one discussion on the cell is open
Blue All discussions on the cell are closed

Hovering the marker opens the discussion. While its discussion is open, the cell itself is highlighted. When a cell has several discussions, the arrows in the header of the popover move between them; an arrow becomes inactive when there is nothing further in that direction.

Replying

Open the discussion from the cell marker or from the comments panel, type the text in the Enter comment field, and click Add. Comments are shown in the order they were added, with the author and the date of each one. Replying is available to all roles, including Analyst and Viewer.

New discussions and new comments appear for the other users immediately, without reloading the page.

Closing and reopening a discussion

The author of a discussion can close it with Mark thread as closed once it has at least one comment. A closed discussion stays visible, is marked with a note saying who closed it and when, and cannot receive new comments. Reopen returns it to the open state.

Editing and deleting

  • The author of a comment can edit and delete their own comment while the discussion is open. Other users do not see these actions
  • Deleting the only comment of a discussion deletes the discussion as well
  • The whole discussion can be deleted only by the user who created it

Comments panel

Open comments in the table control panel menu opens the side panel with all discussions of the current tab and project version. Open discussions are listed first, followed by the Closed threads: section. Hovering a discussion in the panel highlights the cell it belongs to, which makes it easy to find. If the version has no discussions, the panel shows No threads in the current version.

The panel is closed with Close comments. It is available on the Measures, Dimensions, and Facts tabs and can be opened by all roles, including Analyst and Viewer.
