Comparing RMD versions
Comparison shows the RMD of two project versions side by side, so you can see how the description of measures, dimensions, and facts changed from one version to the other.
Opening the comparison
Open the project version menu in the top bar and choose Compare versions. The item is available when the project has at least two versions and a version is selected. If there are unsaved changes on the fact table or data model screens, the system offers to save them first.
Comparison is available to all roles, including Analyst and Viewer.
The comparison screen
- The tabs at the top switch between the compared tables: Measures, Dimensions, and Facts. Dimension groups, fact tables, and relationships are not compared
- The screen is split into two panels with a movable divider. Each panel has its own version selector above the table
- By default the left panel shows the global version of the project and the right panel the version that was selected on the RMD screen
- A version chosen in one panel is excluded from the list of the other one, so the same version cannot be shown twice. Deleted versions cannot be chosen
- Horizontal scrolling of the two panels is synchronized, and the rows of both tables are aligned by their row number, so the same element stays on the same line in both panels
How differences are shown
| Row | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Green background | The row is identical in both versions |
| Red background | The row differs: the value of at least one column is not the same |
| No background | The row is empty in both versions |
In a row that differs, the values of the columns that are not the same are shown in bold, which makes the exact difference visible without comparing the whole row by eye.
Values are compared the way they are displayed: formulas with the references shown as element names, dropdown values as their labels, checkboxes as Yes and No, and a connected source as connection / schema.table / column.
Notes:
- The comparison screen is read-only. Values cannot be edited from it, and there is no rollback of a whole version through it. To return to the state of an earlier version, create a new version based on it
- To restore a single value, use the RMD change history instead
